Jonah Cecil has signed a letter of commitment to run cross country for Illinois Central College.
Jonah is Farmington High School Class of 2017's lone recipient of the 12-Sport Athlete Award, participating in track, football, cross-country, wrestling and basketball over four years.
On Thursday, he qualified for the IHSA state track meet in the 1600-meter run. On May 5, he won the conference championship in the 800-meter run. As a junior, he qualified for the IHSA state indoor track meet in the 4-by-800. As a freshman in cross-country, he was a sectional qualifier.
In football, he was named Farmington's "Best Defensive Player" and 1st Team All-Conference in both his junior and senior years. He also was twice named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches' Association's "Academic All State Team." His senior season was capped with a state quarterfinal appearance and the most wins in school history, finishing 11-1. That season, he was named to both the Journal Star and West Central Illinois Sports all-area teams as a linebacker.
He recently won Farmington High School's John Serdar Award for athletic and academic excellence.
Jonah will attend Illinois Central College this fall to study business.
Good luck, Jonah!
